Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Applicant Pre-cooperation

  1. OVERVIEW
  2. The purpose of this policy is to provide staff and members of the public a working knowledge of the requirement for applicants to comply with the Division of Child Support Services (DCSS).
  3. Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) applicants are required to pre-cooperate with the DCSS in order to receive cash assistance from the Family Assistance Administration (FAA). TANF applicants that are not exempt under the criteria must provide information to the DCSS about the absent parent of each child in the household, with the exception of any child considered benefit capped and not eligible for assistance.
  1. APPLICABILITY
  2. This policy applies to all Arizona IV-D program staff performing Title IV-D services.
  1. POLICY
  2. The DCSS and contracting staff shall provide verification of pre-cooperation to the FAA when a TANF applicant provides the forms and documents necessary to work their child support cases, with the exception of any child considered benefit capped and not eligible for assistance.
  1. CRITERIA
  1. A TANF applicant must pre-cooperate when:
  1. The TANF applicant has a cash assistance application pending approval with the FAA.
  2. The TANF applicant is not claiming good cause.
  3. The TANF applicant is not applying for Tribal TANF.
  4. The TANF applicant is not coded Out (OU) in AZTECS.
  5. The TANF applicant is not applying for Grant Diversion Cash Assistance.

If any of the criteria are not met, the TANF applicant is not required to pre-cooperate with the DCSS.
